Garage Door Opener Repair

Have you been noticing that you garage door isn't opening or closing properly? Or that when it's closed, there is a gap between the door and the garage floor? If so, it may be time for some garage door opener repair. Many problems with the operation of garage doors can be traced back to the opener itself. In many cases, tune ups can be handled by yourself, rather than calling a garage door opener repair service.

Something Blocking The Door?

While it may seem pretty basic, the first thing you'll want to do in checking out your garage door operation is to check and make sure there is nothing in the way. Depending on your situation, it's possible that something has fallen from the rafters onto the door track or is somehow impacting the operation of the garage door opener. This would be the best circumstance as it wouldn't involve calling a garage door opener repair person.

Tighten Up All Connections

More good news. The vast majority of problems with the operation of garage doors is related to screws and bolts loosening up over time. Before you call a garage door opener repair person, check to ensure that all the fittings are tight. Garage doors simply don't operate properly when things are loose. You'll be amazed at the difference tightening things up can make.

Alignment Issues

Another issue that can cause poor garage door operation is the tracks being out of alignment. When this happens, the door could be binding and not closing or opening at all, or it could be out of kilter a bit. When this happens, the door may not sit flush on the floor when closed, allowing rodents to come into your garage with ease. This can be an easy fix as well. Simply loosen the track that's out of alignment and tap it back into place. Then tighten and screws or bolts you loosened.

Calling In A Garage Door Opener Repair Company

If you've checked the other potential issues and still can't get the door to open, it's possible that you've got a problem with your motor. While it's not always the case, if the door won't open at all, the chances are that you've got a problem with the motor. However, you'll want to to be sure to check the batteries and settings on your remote. If all is well with the remote, check to ensure the opener is plugged in tightly and that there is power getting to the outlet it's plugged into. Perhaps the breaker controlling the outlet has tripped. If everything checks out properly, it's likely time to call a garage door opener repair company. Unless the motor itself is burned out, the repair person should be able to fix whatever is ailing your system. Replacement parts, wiring or other issues inside the opener or motor will require professional assistance and aren't things you should deal with unless you are experienced in such matters.
